Safe Distance: Managing Trees and Shrubs Near Your Foundation

trees near home

Trees and shrubs are possible vectors for moisture travelling to your home's exterior where it can do serious damage. Similarly, strong tree roots can destroy foundation walls, while large limbs up top can pose a threat to overhead wiring.
As a general rule of thumb, trees should not be closer than 10 feet from your homes exterior and even further depending on the species of tree. Moreover, it is good practice to prune branches that extend towards the house to maintain a safe distance.
Keep these tips in mind when evaluating your homes perimeter so you can avoid the problems that might arise from close vegetation around your property.
